FRESH PRODUCE’d Los Angeles has selected scenes from Melisa’s full-length play Sad-Eyed Serenity to be a part of their July 2014 monthly workshop. Scenes from Act II of Sad-Eyed Serenity take place 10 years after Serenity’s fling with hot-headed Liam (then a young man on probation, but working his way up in the world as furry Muppet Elmo in Times Square). Melisa will be presenting her paper “Poetry as Change: Transforming Tragedy” in the Creative Nonfiction panel at the South Atlantic Modern Language Association Conference: “Sustainability and the Humanities,” which will be held November 7-9 in Atlanta, GA.
