FRESH PRODUCE’d Los Angeles has selected scenes from Melisa’s full-length play Sad-Eyed Serenity to be a part of their October, 2014 monthly workshop. Once again, it is an honor to be working with these talented folks who will perform another set of scenes from Sad-Eyed Serenity.
Workshop performance of selected scenes of Melisa Malvin-Middleton’s full-length play Sad-Eyed Serenity.
In Sad-Eyed Serenity, a drama with splashes of dark humor, seemingly disparate stories come together in a play that houses furries, felons, and a kitten, all while grappling with issues pertaining to mental illness, addiction, sexual orientation, and notions of family. In Act I, we meet the free-spirited and homeless Serenity. She’s having a fling with Liam, a hotheaded young man on probation who is also mixed up in a relationship of sorts with his parole officer, Clark. Despite the odds, Liam is still working his way up in the world as a furry Minnie Mouse in Times Square taking photos with tourists.
